Q: Will I be totally 'out of it'?
A: No, you will remember most, if not all, of what is said during the session. In fact, many people find that their senses become more hyper aware (hearing sounds they would not normally notice).
Q: Can the hypnotist make me do things I don't really want to do?
A: No. No hypnotist can make a client do anything that he or she would find morally objectionable. Your subconscious mind would simply ignore any suggestions it deemed to be unsafe for you to follow. All hypnosis is really self hypnosis. You choose which suggestions you are going to follow and which one you will ignore. Ideally, you have a relationship built on trust between you and your hypnotherapist. In which case, your hypnotherapist acts as a guide, giving you suggestions that will lead you to your preselected goal. You follow the suggestions because you WANT to. Not because someone else MAKES you.
Q: Can anyone be hypnotized? I don't think I can give up enough control.
A: Again, it really is not about giving up control at all. You are always in control. You are in charge because you choose which suggestions you wish to follow. You choose the goal you want to achieve. You are in a session because you want to be there. If you trust your hypnotherapist, this won't be an issue at all.
Generally, the more intelligent the client, the easier it is to hypnotize him or her. This is because they tend to have a greater ability to concentrate and use their imagination. Children also respond very well. Hypnosis is a very natural state we all slip in and out of each and every day. Have you ever driven your car only to arrive at your destination and not remember all of the details of how you got there? If so, you have experienced hypnosis!
Q: Is clinical hypnosis different from stage hypnosis?
A: Absolutely! Stage hypnosis is all about entertainment. A great stage hypnotist knows exactly how to identify participants in the audience who WANT to be on stage and who LIKE to be the center of attention. Therefore, once that individual gets on stage, he/she is very comfortable with just about anything the stage hypnotist may ask him/her to do. If the suggestion were morally objectionable, then he/she would simply refuse to do that particular thing.
Clinical hypnotherapy is a different animal altogether. Clients come in with a specific goal in mind. They work together with their hypnotherapist to reach their goals. Often this type of work can be tranformational on many levels. The power of the mind is incredible.
Q: How many sessions will I need to receive?
A: That depends entirely upon your goal. If you work with me, it is something we would discuss together during your free consultation. By the end of the consult, we will decide together if this is right for you and if you are comfortable with the time and financial committments it will take to reach your goal.
